How To Stop Washing Machine Vibration?

Severe vibration of washing machine can cause a permanent damage. To avoid this damage and excessive noise, the vibration issue needs to be fixed at the earliest.

In this article, we will discuss how to stop washing machine vibration along with frequent reasons and the respective solutions in detail.

Remove Protective Packing And Transportation Bolts

If you have purchased the washing machine recently and you notice heavy vibration, ensure you have removed any protective packing and transportation bolts.

Check The Surface-Level Of The Machine

Placing the washing machine on uneven surface could result in heavy vibration. This is one of the most common causes especially for the washing machines that can operate at higher RPM. Ensure the washing machine is placed on a levelled surface.

To test if the appliance is placed on a level ground, rock the washing machine gently from one corner to another. If the rocking is more in one direction compared to others then the base is not firm on the ground.

Most of the brands come with height-adjustable feet at the bottom. Use this to properly balance the appliance. Alternatively, shift your appliance to a flat surface.

You can also use anti-vibration pads to avoid the appliance from moving and hence preventing it from damaging. These also help with reducing the noise a little bit.

Empty Spin Cycle Test

If your washer still has vibration, perform an empty spin cycle test and check if the appliance still shakes excessively and makes any grinding noises. If it does, then the bearings may have been damaged and you will need to contact authorized service provider to get the bearings replaced.

Avoid Uneven Loading

Uneven loading of laundry is another common cause for excessive vibration. When you have heavy blankets or comforters mixed with normal clothes, during spinning the drum will find it difficult to balance due to uneven weight and hence the appliance vibrates excessively.

The drum is counter balanced with weights, excessive shaking due to unbalanced load could loosen the weights and/or damage the bearings. So, avoid adding heavy laundry with light-weight laundry to minimize the possibility of excessive vibration.

Avoid Over Loading

Exceeding the washer beyond it’s capacity will also impact the drum bearings and result in the damage of the appliance in the medium term.

Fix Loose Weights

If you notice the vibration is due to loose weights, it could be an easy fix. The nuts on the top of the drum weight need to be tightened.

Clean The Pump Filter

The pump filter catches any objects like coins, buttons, lint or hair and prevents them from going into the drain hose. When this is clogged, it could result in vibration.

Conclusion

While mild shaking of washing machine during spin cycles is normal, an excessive shaking could be an indication of an underlying problems such as uneven surface, uneven laundry load, loose weights or damaged drum bearings.

Troubleshooting the problem and taking corrective actions should reduce the vibration to an acceptable limit and increase the longevity of the appliance.

FAQs

Why is my washing machine vibrating so much?

The frequent reasons for washing machine vibration are unlevel surface and uneven loading. Read these two topics from the blog post to know how to fix it.

Why is my washing machine making a vibrating noise while spinning?

This usually happens when the drum bearings are worn-out due to prolonged excessive vibration. To fix this the bearings need to be replaced.

Do anti-vibration pads work?

These usually work only if the surface level has a slight imbalance. These pads help prevent the movement of the appliance due to vibration. These pads in itself will not address the source of the problem.

Does vibration damage washing machine?

Prolonged excessive vibration will damage the drum bearings and may leave the machine non-functional.

Do all washing machines shake when spinning?

It is normal for washing machines to shake mildly during spinning especially at high speeds. However excessive vibration is not normal and needs to be addressed to avoid permanent damage.
